Step Up Program

Social User Experience

Step Up is a bystander intervention program that educates students to be proactive in helping others. It is a movement and a goal to make our campus a better place, one student and one situation at a time.

Students on Ferris State’s campus encounter dangerous situations at parties and need to intervene but often times do not. Ferris’ current program was not communicating effectively to the student base on the severity of being a bystander and the effect it has on campus. It was using the university as an authority, which students often overlook or do not listen to. The solution was to create a direct and student driven program that got students caring deeply about the issues of sexual assault, mental health and alcohol abuse. This was done by striking an emotional cord and helping students realize that their peer’s safety was on them and that they should "Step Up".
